Connection

Safety rules

Before use, configure the system. Proper operation of the BMS IMD is possible only if it is correctly configured.

The BMS can be connected to batteries with life-threatening and health-hazardous voltage levels. When working with high-voltage batteries, observe electrical safety regulations, use safety glasses, protective clothing, insulated tools and appliances. To prevent the damage of device avoid electrostatic discharges while working with the battery.

The system is not designed to operate with batteries whose total voltage exceeds 900V.

Installation

The mounting location must be protected from mechanical obstacles (dust, dirt, large objects) and water. Device placement should provide easy access for connection.

Headers

The BMS IMD has two headers for connecting the power line (X3 and X4), a header for connecting external equipment and power supply (X2), a chassis connection header (X1) and a jumper which connects a terminal resistor to the CAN bus (J1).

2CAN_HCAN H line for communication with external equipment
3GNDGround
4GNDGround
5V+Device supply line (9-32V)
6CAN_LCAN L line for communication with external equipment
7OUT_WORKDiscrete output for work indication (open drain, max 60V, 1A)
8OUT_ERRORDiscrete output for error indication (open drain, max 60V, 1A)

Notes:
The OUT_WORK signal signals the operation of the device’s main program and is generated when the device is turned on.
The OUT_ERROR signal indicates a critical device error or a low insulation resistance value.

X2 – header for a top-level controller (v1.2 only)

Receptacle Housing: Molex 430251200. Terminals: Molex 43030

Notes:
The OUT_WORK signal signals the operation of the device’s main program and is generated when the device is turned on.
The OUT_ERROR signal indicates a critical device error or a low insulation resistance value.
The KEYRUN_1 and KEYRUN_2 signals are equivalent and are intended to trigger the device’s power supply circuit. Can be connected to the V+ device supply line.
